Jun 29 (0) I’ve uploaded a new recording of the Kennet Aviation Supermarine Seafire on my field-recording website. More information available from my field-recording Supermarine Seafire page. Aug 04 (1) This Merlin engined Spitfire PR.11 PL965 (G-MKXI) turned up at Old Warden at the weekend and did a fantastic display. The sound I recorded starts with the aircraft looping over the field and then a fast flyover right on axis with my mic setup. Another one of the great aircraft at Hanger 11, North Weald. More information from the Hanger 11 web site. For a change I took my camera and took a few snaps instead of relying on Wikpedia content. Completely by suprise a formation of Hawker Sea Hurricane, Supermarine Seafire, Grumman F4F Wildcat and a Vought Corsair flew over as a prelude to a naval themed display at Old Warden, 3rd June 2007. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser. This recording was taken using minidisc and an AT-822 so dynamics are limited to that hardware, the mp3 version adding a few artifacts. Jun 28 (0) A recording of a Supermarine Seafire taken on 3rd June 2007. The aircraft was displaying as a naval group (Sea Hurricane, Corsair, Wildcat) at Old Warden. Recorded using a minidisc and an AT-822. The mp3 version doesn’t do the recording justice (despite high VBR bitrate) unfortunately. If you’d like copy of the original uncompressed version then let me know. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. Not too sure about these later mark Spitifires but a little research would indicate this a Packard built Rolls-Royce Merlin. If anyone can confirm this, I’d appreciate it. This aircraft is operated by Spitfire Ltd. There’s quite a bit of crowd noise on this recording so I’ve made an edit of the best bits. Sometimes crowd noise adds to the sound – not always. Feb 15 (8) This is Supermarine Seafire F XVII SX 336 taking off from a grass runway. This recording was made at Old Warden Aerodrome, UK, where the aircraft was a ‘visitor’. Powered by a single liquid-cooled V-12 Rolls-Royce Merlin 55M capable of producing 1,585hp. The sound and the image are of the same aircraft – the image is via Wikipedia, the sound via a AT822->HiMD.
